Lamborn Family Vineyards

Lamborn Family Vineyards run true to their name, given they were the first wine brand in the United States to be labeled as a “Family Vineyard.”

While today, there are plenty of family-run wineries that aren’t involved in daily operations, Lamborn is truly run by the Lamborns. Four generations have proudly worked this soil, growing the best possible grapes and producing the highest quality, single-vineyard wines they possibly can.

Using only Estate grown fruit allows the Lamborns to have complete control over quality and quantity. Four generations of practice have allowed the Lamborns to have a deep understanding of the terroir and how best to cultivate their land. Farming 100% organically allows the Lamborns to give back to their environment, which in turn is great for both the vines and wines.

Lamborn’s Winemaker, Heidi Barrett, has been dubbed “The First Lady of Wine” by Robert Parker. Barrett is the only winemaker to have achieved consecutive 100-point scores (Screaming Eagle/Dalle Valle) from Parker and remains one of the most sought-after winemakers in the world. Barrett’s winemaking brilliance can be attributed to her unparalleled attention to detail, mastery of her craft, and being an all-around wonderful person. Barrett has been making exquisite Lamborn wines since 1997.

Lamborn Cabernet Sauvignon

*2017 Vintage Description*

2017 began with abundant rainfall. Spring weather was cool, resulting in extended flowering in some areas with little shatter, but vines were vigorous thanks to the ample winter rains. Three heat events kicked harvest into high gear but with cool weather arriving immediately afterward, sugar levels to returned to normal. Most late-ripening red grapes continued to hang on the vine and were picked over the next few weeks. By October 8 (when the wine country wildfires started) 90 percent of the 2017 grape tonnage had been picked across the Valley, including all at Lamborn. Another “picture perfect” growing season in beautiful Napa Valley.

“The inviting bouquet offers dense fruit aromas of wild blackberry, currant, and stewed blueberry, balanced with a deep floral layer of lavender, while hints of vanilla and earth pull them all together. Intense in its structure but overlaid with a seductive silkiness, the dense and chewy mountain fruit dances in the glass with playful notes of spice and creamy oak. The deep and rich fruit can be appreciated for its power and purity now while cellaring well for over 20 years. A stunning Howell Mountain beauty of a Cabernet.” – Heidi Barrett, Winemaker

Lamborn Zinfandel

2017 began with abundant rainfall. Spring weather was mild, resulting in extended flowering in some areas with little shatter, and vines were vigorous thanks to the winter rains. Three heat events kicked harvest into high gear with cool weather arriving immediately afterward, allowing sugar levels to return to normal. Most late-ripening red grapes continued to hang on the vine and were picked over the next few weeks. The name of this vintage pays homage to the brave men and women first responders who work tirelessly to keep our homes and livelihoods safe.

“The dense ruby garnet hue perfectly sets the stage for the rich, pure tones of black cherry, black plum, and blueberry compote aromas. A subtle hint of inviting toasty vanilla rounds off Scene One as this luscious Zinfandel story begins. Multilayered arrays of mouthwatering red and black fruits take the spotlight, offering depth and concentration mid-palate with a deliciously lengthy finish that will leave you cheering for more. Yet another elegant Zinfandel from the Lamborn’s mountaintop vineyard, this wine will steal the show.”

Lamborn Cabernet Blend

*2018 Vintage Description*

February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer, followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat, created near-ideal conditions for us to allow our fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels. It was a seamless season of heavenly hangtime and phenomenal phenolic development.

“This dark, inky Cabernet blend offers alluring fragrances of blueberry, raspberry, and mocha chocolate. With a swirl in the glass the aromas erupt, a fitting tribute to their volcanic soil origins. Mid-palate fine tannins give way to rich and concentrated brambleberry, black currant, and blueberry, rounded out with the lushness of raspberry from the Lamborn’s prototypical mountain Zinfandel. This blend showcases both power and finesse in a sumptuously captivating wine, dense with succulent fruits that will have your lips smacking for more. Cabernet/blend lovers rejoice!”

Lamborn Rose

*2019 Vintage Description*

Produced in the saignée (bleeding off the juice after limited contact with skins) fashion and fermented dry, this Rosé is darker in color than many in the market today. The presence of color can be directly associated with flavor, of which this wine has plenty. Lamborn took the opportunity to name this pink wine after the two oldest, and only female, members of the fourth Lamborn generation, cousins Mary and Hāna.

“Exhibiting the suggestive color of blood oranges, this 2019 Rosé of Zinfandel offers seductive aromas of bright strawberry and bramble accented with a hint of perfume. The palate is clean and fruit-filled accompanied by a hint of citrus zest. We fermented this delicious Rosé dry, leaving no residual sugar. What we have left is an enticingly crisp and lovely Rosé, a bit weightier than some thanks to the denseness of mountain fruit. A perfect sipper!”– Heidi Barrett, Winemaker
