Description
Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, USA 1999WS 93 | WINE SPECTATORA tremendous wine, dark, polished and deeply concentrated, with layers of plush plum, blackberry and black cherry, showing touches of herb and black olive. Finishes with a broad, rich, supple texture and wonderful length. |
WA 91 | WINE ADVOCATEThe superb 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (1,857 cases) is more California-styled with lavish toasty new oak intermixed with jammy black cherries, black currants, licorice, and tobacco notes. It is a dense, opulent, cassis-flavored effort with loads of fruit and glycerin. |
ST 89 | VINOUSMedium-dark red with a trace of amber. Aromas of plum, espresso, mocha and red licorice are complicated by herbal and leafy nuances, with notes of flowers and woodsmoke emerging with air. Densely packed but lightly vegetal in a Cabernet Sauvignon way, conveying good juicy vinosity but also a strong edge of acidity. More savory than sweet; in fact I find this wine a bit tart in the mid-palate, and slightly green and dry on the back end. This blend included some clone 337 fruit from vines that were partly shaded by a line of walnut trees. (14.5% alcohol; 3.82 pH; 6.1 grams per liter total acidity expressed as tartaric; from Beckstoffer To Kalon but the label says only Cabernet Sauvignon; aged in 75% new oak, with the Taransaud and Seguin-Moreau supplemented by some Louis Latour barrels) |
