Wine Spectator
Combines power with finesse. Pure, rich, polished Cabernet fruit, dark berry, subtle oak, sandalwood and cedar are slow in emerging but do so in a very pleasing manner, ending with kirsch, black licorice and dense berry flavors. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.—2001 California Cabernet blind retrospective (June 2011). Drink now through 2022. 125 cases made. — JL

ROBERT PARKER
Packaged in a heavy bottle with a wax capsule, the dark ruby/purple-colored 2001 Cuvee L (93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cabernet Franc) displays a fragrant perfume of cedar, new saddle leather, black currants, plums, and a hint of figs. With broad, expansive, fleshy flavors and moderate tannin in the finish, it remains youthful and in need of another 1-2 years of bottle age. It should drink well for 12-15 years.
