DescriptionBouchard Pere & Fils Montrachet Grand Cru, Cote de Beaune, France 2004
BURGHOUNDThis is so reserved that it took some vigorous swirling to eventually coax the reluctant white flower, ripe orchard fruit and spice notes to reveal themselves yet the massive flavors are opulent, thick and concentrated with a powerfully focused finish that is also almost painful as it etches itself into the palate. This is so big and intense that at present it's almost tiring to taste yet the balance is already perfect and this should prove to be a long distance runner. In a word, magnificent.
STEPHEN TANZERDeep aromas of clove and iodine. Extremely tight, dry and backward, giving up little today. Very intensely flavored and steely; in comparison, the young 2005 is much fruitier and creamier today. This one is most impressive now on the subtle, stony, rising finish. An extremely unevolved wine that calls for extended cellaring.
