DescriptionDomaine Henri Boillot Les Pucelles, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, France, 2005
VINOUSCaptivating aromas of citrus peel, spring flowers and nut oil. Dense, thick and intense, with a silky, almost oily texture leavened by brisk acidity. Extremely intense flavor of peche de vigne complicated by chewy minerality and a soil-driven saline element. This boasts the inner-mouth tension and delicacy of a top Chevalier-Montrachet. Wonderfully pure, sweet finish stimulates the salivary glands. The combination of power, freshness and thrust here is exhilarating.
BURGHOUNDI rarely find the average Pucelles to deliver on its reputation but this one indisputably does with a brilliantly elegant, pure and airy nose of ripe citrus and honeysuckle that complements perfectly the concentrated, seductive and palate staining flavors that exude class and grace on the finish that detonates like a vinous bomb on the unbelievably long finish. This is not quite as complex as the best of the grands crus in Boillot's négoce offerings but it certainly knocks on the door. Reference standard quality here and Pucelles just doesn't get much better.
