STEPHEN TANZER
Bright gold-tinged yellow. Aromas of citrus fruits, minerals and spices, with deeper notes of honey, truffle and oatmeal emerging with air. A rich, powerful, uncompromisingly dry Chablis with more energy and cut than the 2006. This was austere from the start and there's nothing easy about it even today. But the finish impresses for its tactile texture and wet-stone minerality, and there's fruit lurking, so I would check back in on this very broad wine in another couple of years.

A ripe and fully mature nose retains an appealing freshness on the mildly exotic dried white and yellow orchard fruit and floral scents that possess just enough Chablis character to be persuasive. There is good richness to the delicious, round and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that deliver solid if not truly special depth and persistence on the lightly mineral-inflected finale. For my taste this has arrived at its full maturity and while it will certainly continue to hold I see no further improvement in store. In sum, 2005 is a perfectly good but not truly distinguished vintage for the Raveneau MdT.
