VINOUS
Very pale yellow. Perfumed aromas of soft citrus fruits are downright explosive-and a bit exotic-for Clos. Broad, suave and ripe, with lovely intensity to the citrus zest flavors. Underlying minerality gives this very rich wine a light touch. Finishes with superb grip and length, and a tactile, almost saline minerality. This was 12.7% potential alcohol, chaptalized to 13.5%. An outstanding sample.

WINE ADVOCATE
A gorgeous nose of rowan, lime, white peach, almond, and walnut oil in the Billaud-Simon 2007 Chablis Les Clos leads into a succulently fruity, piquantly nutty, and distinctly chalky palate impression that lingers with focused persistence. Here we have amplitude impressively combined with primary juiciness, brightness and energy, as well as the promise of continued excellence over the course of the coming decade.

Bernard Billaud agreed this year to show me his young grand crus in advance of their anticipated May or June bottling, even though they were on their finings. In addition, I was able to have my first taste of his 2007 grand crus.

BURGHOUND
(BARREL) The most elegant wine in the range with a superbly seductive mélange of wood spice, white flower and citrus suffused aromas that introduce big, powerful and dynamic yet refined and ultra pure flavors that are complex, well muscled and lingering. A complete wine that has the dry extract to buffer the firm acid spine of a classic Les Clos.
