Description
Domaine Billaud-Simon Les Clos, Chablis Grand Cru, France 2011, 1500mlBH 94 | BURGHOUNDHere the expressive and ripe but cool nose offers up plenty of Chablis character in the form of sea breeze and oyster shell along with ample amounts of the typical floral and mineral reduction notes. There is good richness but also plenty of verve to the almost racy broad-shouldered flavors that possess good power and plenty of finishing punch on the mouth coating finale. This is also a remarkably good effort that is ever-so-slightly longer than the Preuses but a bit less complex. |
AG 93+ | ANTONIO GALLONIThe 2011 Chablis Les Clos fills out its broad-shouldered frame nicely, with expressive layers of fruit that continue to blossom as the wine sits in the glass. Yellow stone fruits and sweet spices all add complexity in a Chablis that is all about texture. The 2011 is incredibly appealing today, but also appears to have the stuffing to age gracefully for years. |
WA 93 | WINE ADVOCATEDusty chalk and zesty lime mark the not atypical nose of Billaud-Simon’s 2011 Chablis Les Clos, with lily-of-the-valley and hints of apricot kernel adding allure and piquancy. Dense and relatively firm in feel for its vintage, this finishes with a mouthwatering influx of salinity and formidable penetration and concentration. I suspect it will perform impressively through at least 2013. |
