Description2016 Caroline Morey Criots-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Chassagne-Montrachet, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France
VINOUSPale, bright straw-yellow. Musky peach, pear, menthol and smoky minerality on the reduced nose. Densely packed, salty wine with lurking orchard and stone fruit flavors currently overshadowed by a distinctly smoky quality and salty minerality. This too is rather reduced but conveys strong savory, smoky soil tones and a thickness of texture. A bit richer than the above but with a deeper pitch, and less harmonious today. Has plenty of acidity but not quite the lift of the Caillerets. Held up beautifully in the recorked bottle.
BURGHOUNDA hint of exotic character can be found on the yellow orchard fruit, citrus, wood toast and white peach scents. There is excellent richness, volume and density to the opulent and sappy big-bodied flavors that terminate in a bone dry and super-saline finish. Like the Caillerets, this is very tightly wound and is going to require at least some patience.
