Bonjour a Bourgogne!

I’m here in Burgundy on day 12 of the 2018 harvest in Chassagne-Montracht. I know we all get a little tired reading harvest report after harvest report proclaiming the greatness of the vintage at hand, but…according to some of the best minds in Burgundy like Pierre-Yves Colin, Caroline Morey, Dominique Lafon, etc, the 2018 vintage is looking to be on par with 1985, one of the greatest of the century.

We are pulling incredible fruit; this is some of PYCM’s Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru. This is a vintage not only of quality, but FINALLY quantity.

That’s me harvesting in Bâtard-Montrachet.

2014 GRIVOT RICHEBOURG
$1,195/bottle
95-97 points, Wine Advocate
The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru has a quite compelling bouquet, as one is getting accustomed to chez Grivot. There are pure dark cherries, red plum and boysenberry fruit here, infused with fine mineralité and that sense of aristocracy one seeks in a Richebourg. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, wonderful acidity and beautifully integrated oak. There is great poise here, power hand in hand with elegance, a consummate Richebourg that will give a lot of pleasure over many years.

2015 COLIN MOREY CAILLERETS
$198/bottle
90-93 points, Allen Meadows
Discreet wood frames a gorgeous nose of apple, pear, orange peel and wet stone. The textured, concentrated and quite intense flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract while culminating in a dry, linear and highly persistent finish. This is a relatively backward 2015 and will likely need 6 to 8 years to arrive at its apogee.
2015 COLIN MOREY LA GARENNE
$158/bottle
88-90 points, Wine Advocate
The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru la Garenne has a reserved, limestone and lime flower-scented bouquet, just a touch of stone fruit in the background. The palate has a slight bitterness on the entry, then it settles down and offers crisp kiwi fruit, gooseberry and Granny Smith notes towards the linear finish. Give this a year in bottle for it to open up.
2015 COLIN MOREY MORGEOT ABAYE
$138/bottle
89-92 points, Allen Meadows
An admirably pure nose features the essence of citrus-tinged apple aromas where additional notes of pear and white peach are present. There is very fine volume to the punchy and relatively precise middle weight plus flavors that possess equally good intensity and complexity but not the warmth.
