Description2015 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière, Burgundy, France
Wine SpectatorThis is open and fluid, with a weightless feel despite the rich exterior. Butterscotch, hazelnut and lemon cake flavors gain steam as this unfolds on the long finish. Drink now through 2023.
Robert Parker's Wine AdvocateI revisited Pierre-Yves Colin's 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière from my cellar, and while the wine is slowly emerging from post-bottling hibernation, it remains very youthful, unwinding in the glass with a subtle bouquet of citrus oil, green apple, crisp Anjou pear and wet stones. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with good depth at the core, incisive acids and a palpable sense of chalky dry extract. While there's a certain sweetness of fruit that nods to the vintage, this is beautifully rendered and is beginning to realize the potential it showed from barrel.
VinousPale, bright yellow. Exotic on the nose compared to the 2016 version, offering aromas of lemon drop, orange and minerals. Quite ripe, even sweet, but not at all exotic on the palate, stuffed with rich lemon drop and ripe stone fruit flavors. Perhaps a bit aggressive as the second 2015 sample I tasted after going through a full line-up of Colin's '16s but this is amazingly rich and silky for Saint-Aubin. Finishes fine-grained and very long, with intense fruit and the power to last. An essence of vintage 2015 in style.
BurghoundSmoky aromas of pear liqueur, acacia and pretty spice and citrus aromas can be found on the well-layered and fresh nose. There is excellent richness and volume to the slightly more voluminous flavors but also lovely vibrancy while offering fine depth and persistence on the sappy and well-balanced finale. Good stuff and well worth considering.
